At a public hospital in Managua, Nicaragua, an OBGYN Doctor struggles with her conscience as she contends with the harrowing implications of a new law that prevents the termination of any pregnancy, even when a woman’s life is at stake.  As the Doctor and her colleagues navigate the fears of prosecution and whether to the use medical protocols that enable them to save lives, the drama of the deadly impact of this law emerges, illuminating the reality of prohibition against the backdrop of a political, religious and historically complex national identity.

Holen Sabrina Kahn is an award winning filmmaker and visual artist whose work creatively explores ethical acts and ideas of individual agency. Her projects have focused on the genocide in Rwanda, Buddhist monastic life in Taiwan, Colonial exploration of the Pacific, Refugee communities and most recently the criminalization of abortion in Nicaragua in her feature documentary, A Quiet Inquisition.

Her work has been exhibited widely in festivals, museums, and broadcast and has received support from the N.Y. State Council for the Arts, Chicken and Egg Pictures, the Eastman Fund, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund/NYFA, Sundance Doc Fund, and the Dobkin Family Foundation. She holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, was a research fellow at Yale University’s Genocide Studies Program, and studio Fellow at the Whitney Museum’s Independent study program. Holen has also worked extensively as an editor, producer and post supervisor.
