The San Francisco Film School (formerly SF School of Digital Filmmaking) offers a number of exciting and challenging programs of study. All our programs and workshops have a project-based curriculum that combine classroom study with hands-on digital filmmaking experience using professional equipment. Our flagship Digital Filmmaking Programs are designed to prepare students for careers in the entertainment industry. The Short Film and Visual Storytelling Workshops give students a valuable hands-on immersion into the art and craft of movie making. Our 6-Month Documentary Filmmaking Workshop trains students who are ready to delve into the world of non-fiction movie making. And our Introduction to Filmmaking Workshop is a great place to start for those completely new to filmmaking.

Accredited Programs


Associate of Applied Science in Digital Filmmaking

Length: 16 - 24 Months

The AAS degree program teaches every aspects of filmmaking and is designed for students wishing to pursue careers as writers, directors, producers, cinematographers, and editors in the motion picture and television industries. Students have the option of taking this program in-person, online, or hybrid.

The Professional Certificate program focuses on creative expression technical proficiency, and is designed for students wishing to pursue careers in corporate and web-based production. Students have the option of taking this program in-person, online, or hybrid.

Continuing Education

Length: per semester

Students who wish to take individual semester classes can enroll as continuing education students, and can create a customized program of study suited to their individual needs and professional goals.  Students can pursue core areas of filmmaking including directing, screenwriting, cinematography, producing, editing & post-production, and audio for film, as well as classes in film history and the business of film.
