Scholarships
The San Francisco Film School is committed to cultivating diversity of backgrounds and experiences within our school community and in the wider film industry. As such, we are proud to offer the following scholarships to our prospective students interested in completing either an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree or Professional Certificate (PC).
The scholarships that we currently offer are:
Golden Gate Visionary Scholarship – up to $4000 per semester!
With the generous support of the Peartree Foundation for Creative Arts, we are proud to offer the Golden Gate Visionary Scholarship (GGVS) to support aspiring filmmakers and visual storytellers from underserved communities through scholarships, mentorship and creative resources.
The GGVS is a tuition-gap scholarship created in response to declining arts funding across the U.S. with the goal of ensuring that diverse new voices continue to shape our cultural and creative future.
While the GGVS is available to students residing in any part of the country, we prioritize those from the nine San Francisco Bay Area counties with the goal of supporting emerging filmmakers and digital artists whose work reflects the region’s diversity, cultural depth and complex social landscape.
Scholarships are awarded per academic year on a per-semester basis and are designed to empower students to tell their own stories while providing them the training and mentorship needed to turn passion into profession. We are proud to invest in young creators who not only dream boldly, but also reflect the vibrant and multifaceted spirit of the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.
Meet some of our most recent GGVS recipients:
Ayngelique Daniel – 2025 + 2026 Golden Gate Visionary Scholarship Recipient
“To be supported in a world that seems as if it’s losing the benefits of assistance from our higher ups, this shows that there are still resources to believe in. It pushes me to strive for greater accomplishments and keep my head on straight for not only myself but the people who’ve supported me. Thank you.”
Drè Car – 2025 + 2026 Golden Gate Visionary Scholarship Recipient
“As a film student, I’ve learned that storytelling is more than capturing moments…it’s translating emotion, truth, and lived experience into something that moves people. This scholarship has not only eased the financial weight of pursuing my dreams, but it’s also affirmed that my voice belongs in this industry. It’s a reminder that my perspective…rooted in the Bay Area, shaped by resilience, culture, and authenticity…carries power. The Golden Gate Visionary Scholarship didn’t just help me stay in school; it helped me stay inspired. Every frame I create now feels like a thank you…to those who believed in me, and to the visionaries who will come after.”
To be considered for institutional scholarships, students must meet eligibility requirements, which may include full-time enrollment, satisfactory academic progress and completion of required financial aid steps so the institution can determine eligibility and remaining financial need.

“The professional support and inspiration I receive from my teachers are a defining part of my growth. Being awarded a scholarship has also been an important part of this journey, allowing me to fully focus on my development.
