San Francisco Film School was honored to welcome Academy Award–nominated filmmaker Roman Coppola for a special installment of the SFFS Masterclass Series. Held on September 24, 2025, at the exclusive 12th Floor Penthouse of the City Club of San Francisco, the event offered students and faculty an extraordinary opportunity to learn from one of the most innovative voices in contemporary cinema.
Moderated by directing instructor Pietro Pinto, the masterclass explored Coppola’s remarkable career as a screenwriter, director, and producer. The session featured film clips showcasing his acclaimed directorial work and his celebrated collaborations with Wes Anderson, Sofia Coppola, and Francis Ford Coppola.
Coppola, whose credits include Moonrise Kingdom, Isle of Dogs, Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette, and CQ, also discussed his work with The Directors Bureau and his award-winning music videos for artists such as The Strokes and Daft Punk.
The engaging Q&A session allowed students to connect directly with Coppola, gaining first hand insight into the creative process and the evolving landscape of filmmaking. The event was an inspiring highlight of the Masterclass Series, offering invaluable lessons in collaboration, artistry, and cinematic storytelling.
