92% Graduate Job Placement Rate

Since 2010, 92% of graduates from the Digital Filmmaking Programs (AAS Degree & Professional Certificate) have gotten jobs in the entertainment industry.  This is an impressive number, and we are very proud of it.  Many people have questions about this job placement rate:

 “How is this percentage calculated?”

“What kind of jobs are grads getting?”

“What type of job placement does the school provide?”

We wanted to take the time to answer these questions and explain this important statistic.

How is the 92% calculated?

As a nationally accredited school, licensed by the State of California, our school is required to report our graduation rates and job placement rates every year.  As a result, we poll our graduates on the jobs they are landing within the 12 months after their graduation.  based upon this research, we divide the # of people working in the entertainment industry by the total number of grads for the year.  For the last 8 years, this has yielded an average 92% job placement rate.

What type of jobs are grads getting?

Our schools’ hands-on, project-based curriculum is designed to train students in a broad range of filmmaking skills.  It is our goal to provide students with a solid foundation of professional craft upon which to build their career.  This means that grads are working as producers, directors, editors, cinematographers and writers, often combining more than one of these disciplines for the work they’re doing.  A major decision grads need to make is whether they want to work full-time or freelance.  Some of our grads want the flexibility of working freelance, either starting their own companies or working on a project-by-project basis.  Other grads prefer the security of a full-time job with regular hours and pay.  Luckily, with the explosion of internet video and on-demand television, as well as a healthy film industry, there are lots of opportunities for both kinds of work!

What type of job placement does the school provide?

The film industry, like many creative fields, is based upon connections and relationships.  Graduates of our Digital Filmmaking Programs are members of a creative community and have built up connections over the course of their studies.  Many have been referred jobs during their schooling.  In addition, since all of the instructors at the school are working professionals, students have a foundation of industry contacts to tap upon graduation. The school cannot guarantee students get a job, but every student meets with our Director of Education to map out a personal career plan. This detailed plan helps direct students toward their short- and long-term career goals.

We hope the above information sheds some light on our impressive job placement rate.  The San Francisco Film School is a place where YOU can launch your career in 12 months.  We encourage you to connect with a member of our admissions team and find out how to get started TODAY!
